Change in Plans

Mike and I were suppose to go to Carbondale tomorrow and celebrate Emily's birthday.  It is a two hour drive one way.  On Saturday morning when Mike checked the weather forecast for Sunday, the prediction was snow and freezing rain.  So we decided to reschedule the birthday party.

The girls came up with a new plan.  They were on their way to St. Louis Saturday morning and suggested we meet them there for lunch.  Since the parents were now paying, the girls suggested we go to Anthonino's Tavern on the Hill for lunch.  So that is what we did.

A happy group after a full meal including dessert.
We tried Guy Fiere's (Food Network Chef) recommendation - toasted ravioli- and
Suzanne's Peterson's (daughter snowed in in Dallas) recommendation - the baked goat cheese appetizer.
Dana, Emily's roommate, was able to join us.

It started to snow while we were eating dessert so the girls headed back to Carbondale and Mike and I headed around the block to the Missouri Baking Company.  It was very busy which actually was a good thing because it took me awhile to narrow down my selection.  Here is what I finally chose.

I also bought a piece of cheesecake which isn't pictured.
Since grocery shopping at Kroger's in Carbondale was not going to happen now, Mike and I stopped at Schnucks in Edwardsville on the way home.  It was snowing pretty bad by this time and everyone in town must have decided that ought to stock up on their groceries at that same moment we arrived at the store.  We decided to reward ourselves for surviving the onslaught of people and long wait at the checkout by buying gourmet popcorn at the Chef's popcorn shoppe next door.  Here is what I bought from there.

The smallest bag is for me.  It is white chocolate pretzel popcorn.
I don't know about Emily but I sure enjoyed her birthday.
