Why I live here
Today I remembered some of the reasons why I want to live here.
1. I saw daffodils growing when I went into town this morning. That reminded me that we have four seasons here instead of just winter and summer in Houston.
2. I can enjoy nature here in the country. Even in the winter I have been taking my daily walk but it isn't always as enjoyable as it was today. It was 68 degrees and sunny and no snow, wind or mud.
3. The girls are close enough to spend some of their free time with us. As I write Emily and Mike are planning a trip to Chicago to see the Cubs play.
4. I get to grow vegetables. In Houston, you needed to plant vegetables in the spring and fall. I never could get the timing right. Here you grow vegetables in the late spring and summer. Of course, I actually started this seasons vegetables a bit too early but so far they are all surviving except for the basil. I've already lost two of those plants.
5. I get to eat eggs from my (kind of) free range chickens. Even if they aren't free range chickens I think they are pretty happy.
6. I don't have to walk the dogs on a leash. Mabel in particular is a terrible leash walker. First she walks fast. Then she stops. Then you yell at her and she runs. Then she slows to a walk and the cycle repeats again. Here at the farm we can just let the dogs roam around the property.
7. It's relaxing here. I got stopped by a train this morning while running errands and it didn't even faze me. I just waited patiently for it to go by. Not a normal reaction for me when I was a participant in the rat race in Houston.
8. Mike and I get to spend more time together. We used to be in a large house in Houston at the same time but not doing things together. Now we shop together, feed the fish together, and even go fishing together!9. I'm going to live in a brand new house. I'm pretty sure it will be finished in the near future and we will get to live in it.
There was all sorts of activity over at the house this morning. We had 4 geothermal heating and air conditioning guys, 3 brick layers, 2 dry wallers and 1 United Builders person checking in with the everyone. All parking spaces were taken especially when they added the big backhoe.
Note: these reasons are listed in no particular order.
