Dallas
Mike and I went to Dallas over the weekend. We drove because we wanted to bring Suzanne her boxes. These were the 12 cardboard moving boxes residing in our basement that belonged to her.
We took responsibility for these 12 boxes last year, the middle of May to be exact. Suzanne had packed up her dorm room and brought most of it to our Houston home. As she was on her way to an internship in Florida, she only kept what could fit in her car. We took all the rest of her stuff. As we had begun the process of leaving Houston and living in Illinois, we moved her belongings into a storage locker along with everything we were keeping. Eventually, we closed out the Houston storage locker and put everything in an Illinois storage locker. Then in June of this year, everything in the Illinois storage locker moved into our new Illinois home. Any box with Suzanne's name on it was promptly put into our basement. It was long past time to give it all back to Suzanne.
We arrived in Dallas on Friday but we waited until Saturday to unload the truck at her apartment. Our timing was fortuitous as her roommate, boyfriend and another guest were available to help with the unloading and unwrapping. I didn't have to do a thing and much to my surprise Suzanne found a place for everything. She only has one box of Christmas decorations left in her closet.
Besides unpacking, Suzanne also found time run out and get me a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte and she cooked all of us breakfast (Chipolte Guacamole Eggs Benedict for me). Later in the day, she hosted a dinner party for us at her apartment.
Suzanne was a great hostess. She asked Mike and I what we wanted to do and then made sure we did it. We wanted to go shopping. Mike needed to stop at Bass Pro Shop for new lures to replace the ones that keep getting away and I wanted to go to the gourmet Whole Foods Market to stock up on the food items I can't find at Super WalMart. We also stopped in at a Kroger for old times sake.
On Sunday, I helped Suzanne learn how to use the new sewing machine that Aunt Kathy had sent her. While we were doing that, Caitlyn (her roommate) and Mike put together their new DVD storage unit to help hold all the DVD's that we had just brought.
Mike and I left Monday morning. Suzanne gave me a present before we left. She gave me a Disney coffee mug I had seen in the Disney outlet store but wouldn't buy for myself. I wanted to buy the mug that had Anna from Frozen on it even though she had the wrong hair color. It was a a bargain, only $3. Suzanne wouldn't let me. She got me the mug with Anna from Frozen on it with the right hair color. It was $4. All I can say is that it is pretty and I will think of Suzanne (and her extravagant ways) and our trip when I use it.
