Cold Weather

The cold weather has finally arrived.  The pond is frozen all the way across.  It is not frozen enough to skate on but it is pretty.

The cold weather does not stop us from doing outdoor things though.  Mike still walks the dogs through the timber.  Of course, he has a few stragglers.  Here Mike heads out and has to call and call and call to get all the dogs to come.  Mabel was actually heading back to the house instead but she finally joined the group.

And Laura joined a 5K run.  One of the incentives was that a nice sweatshirt was included in the registration price.  But the greater incentive was that it was a Hot Chocolate Run and she earned hot chocolate and chocolate fondue at the end.
The ducks do not seem to be fazed by temperatures in the teens.  Everyday Mike fills up their little pool with fresh water and before he has even unhooked the hose they are in their pool swimming.  One of our older chickens continues to lay eggs daily and one of the new chickens is laying eggs too.  We can tell because the pullet eggs are so much smaller.  Maybe by Christmas I will have enough pullet eggs to make itty bitty deviled eggs.
