Road Trip

Mike and I just spent 3 days driving to California.  We needed to get Emily's car to her at her new residence in Berkeley California.  She will begin working on her Masters in Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley this month and she needed her stuff.

I do not know what was more important to Emily, her car or all her belongings that were stuffed in the car.  All I knew was that there was barely room for our one suitcase and my laptop after we added the box of summer shoes, the box of winter shoes, all her sweaters (she gets very cold in California) and her crockpot.

We left Greenville in the middle of a rain storm at about noon on Wednesday.  We caught up with Emily in California at noon on Saturday.  In the meantime we drove through Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada.  We did not really have any time for sightseeing so here are the highlights as I remember them.

Nebraska- They had sculptures at their rest areas.

Wyoming- They apparently have live rattlesnakes at their rest areas.  Fortunately I did not see one.

Utah- I had never seen the Salt Lake before.  Mike pulled over at a viewing area so I could take this picture.

California- Mike remembered the address of our first house together in Vacaville.  We input it in to Google Maps and drove right to it.  Laura lived in this house for her first 3 months of life.

California- We continued revisiting our past history together by stopping at Martinez where we both worked at the Shell refinery there.  Our purpose for the stop was to get lunch.  We went back to one of our favorite lunch places in downtown Martinez- the Hot Dog Depot.  It was still there and the chili cheese dogs were just as good as I remembered.

After lunch we got back to our main purpose for this trip and drove directly to Berkeley.  Emily was happy to see us and while she unpacked the car, Mike and I walked to the Starbucks that was one block from her house.  Definitely a great way to end a 2200 mile car trip.
