Once in a Blue Moon
The title to this blog was inspired by the blue moon I saw on January 31, 2018. A blue moon is when two full moons happen in one month. Or it can be said to occur when there are 13 full moons in a year instead of 12. This does not occur every year hence the expression 'once in a blue moon' which means something that occurs rarely.
The phrase 'once in a blue moon' made me think of Mike and his new walking shoes. Mike purchasing shoes constitutes a rare event. In this case, he wore the old ones until pieces began falling off of them. Then instead of buying new shoes he tried using several different kinds of glue to try and get the pieces back on the originally $20 shoes. Then, and only when they were on sale, did he buy a new pair. Of course, once he bought the new pair he decided to save them until he absolutely could not wear the old shoes. Here he is actually wearing the new shoes. I believe this occurred the day of the blue moon. Possibly a coincidence.
The other extremely rare event that occurred happened when I went to a women's meeting. We were served white Texas Sheet cake. I had no idea such a delicacy existed. I have made more than my share of (chocolate) Texas Sheet cakes but have never heard of a white Texas Sheet cake. I am now on the hunt for a recipe and an excuse to make one.
Rare occurrences can be fun.
