Sela and Eli's Spring Break
Unlike here in Illinois, the California public school students got a whole week off for spring break. Sela and Eli decided to spend part of their break here with Mike, Laura and I while their parents and brother Jackson checked out colleges in Nashville Tennessee. The KL&M (Kim, Laura & Mike) travel agency did our best to ensure that our visitors had a better time than the Tennessee travelers.
With one exception, we were confined indoors due to the very cold (as in freezing temperatures) weather. Still we managed to create spa shower melts and decorate ceramic tile coasters as well as play a game of Pokeno.
We had three movie nights. Two of them were in the basement with the new sofa. The new sofa was a hit. Eli switched between the two recliners, Laura or I took the chaise lounge and Sela sat in the corner with a dog or two.
On the third night while I was entertaining a ladies group in the basement, movie night was held in the shed. Sela, Eli and Laura also enticed the dogs to join them in the shed. I think it might have been a bit crowded. However, I think I can speak for the ladies in that we were quite happy to be spared sharing the basement with the dogs.
When Sela and Eli got tired of staying at the pond, we either took them to town (Greenville or Vandalia) or to Edwardsville. In Greenville, we ate at Dairy Queen several times and went thrift shopping. Of course, we managed to visit Buchheit's (a visitor favorite) and see the chickens.
In Edwardsville, Sela, Eli and Laura visited the popcorn store on the very day that the popcorn master was having a birthday party. They got free birthday cake, fudge and birthday popcorn. Then they went to Edison's to bowl and find other ways to work off all the sugar they consumed.
Later in the week, Sela, Eli and I went back to Edwardsville to paint pottery. I got so involved in the creative process that I forgot to take pictures of the finished pottery. We will just have to wait two weeks until after tour pieces are kiln fired to remember what they looked like.
In my humble opinion, we did a pretty good job of keeping our visitors warm and happily occupied during one of the coldest April's I have spent here at the farm.
