First Annual Peterson Pond 5K

Emily organized the First Annual Peterson Thanksgiving Pond 5K for the Friday after Thanksgiving.  Since she and her guest Laura Flannery did not arrive until late on Thanksgiving Day we could not very well have it any sooner.

The race did not start until sometime close to noon as half of the participants slept in.  Then they had to wait for two late entrants (Laura Peterson and myself) to get ready and complete the registration process.

The race was expertly run with the exception of no one to lead the singing of the national anthem.  Mike started us off at the end of the driveway starting line.  Runners went first and the walker (me) went second for safety reasons.  Then Mike, with Frankie as his assistant, jumped in his truck and drove to the turn around point.  There Mike waited for the runners and made sure to hand out bottled water.  Mike had no problem recognizing the race participants as they all wore numbers.  And there were only four of us and we were the only ones traversing the road on two feet and all but one of them was related to him.

Unfortunately there were no ribbons for the age category winners.  I say this because I was first in my age category and would have loved to have a ribbon to say so.  Right now, Mike has his second place ribbon (from the September Vine to Wine 5K) displayed on our refrigerator and I would sure like to have one of my own up there.

As for the runners, the results were as follows:

Emily (Red Dragon) First

Laura (Laura Reeney) Second

And Laura (Laura Fleeney) Third

All race participants were glad to have participated even if it was a little cold.  Already they are asking about the race plans for next year.
