Keeping Mike Busy

Fall is a good time to get things done around the pond.  This is because it is much more comfortable being outside than it is during the hot summer months.  Also, Mike has more time for chores because he does not have to mow the grass anymore.  It is no longer growing.  As a result, Mike has been spending time outside completing some long deferred chores.

I was really impressed.  Mike took the initiative to acquire this sign and hang it on the chicken coop.  I did not realize until much later that they had just given it to him at the feed store.  I should have known that what really sparked his interest in decorating the chicken coop was the fact that the sign was free.

The girls gave me an apple tree when I first moved into the shed apartment.  It has been thriving and producing apples.  However, I was unaware that you are suppose to prune or shape an apple tree so it can handle the weight of the apples without falling over.  Ours has been lopsided for awhile now.  It is no more.  Mike fixed it.  Or at least added enough support to the trunk that it no longer looks so precarious.

The fall colors are so beautiful that it is easy to get distracted from our outside chores.  Mike offered to take me on a fall foliage boat tour of the pond in addition to handling his other chores.  I took him up on it.  (See results in forthcoming blog post).  It took a bit longer than I expected.  Mike's battery trickle charger does not seem to be keeping the battery fully charged.  By the time the tour was over I was afraid I might have to swim to shore.  Fortunately that did not happen, although Mike did end up abandoning the boat well short of making it back to the dock.

Fall has always been my favorite time of year mainly because of the fall colors and holidays.  However, the cooler weather is definitely a bonus.  Especially if as a result we get a few more projects completed around here.
