Mother's Day

We celebrated Mother's Day on Saturday.  The plans were for Suzanne, Heath and Finn to meet us at the pond for a lunch that they would cater.  Well, not Finn.  He is not into catering or spending much time inside the house for that matter.  He took off to investigate the timber and play with his dog pals as soon as he arrived.

While we were waiting for Suzanne and Heath though, Anna came by.  She was having an early Mother's Day gift, time to herself without her children, and decided to come visit Grandma Lois and bring her some roses.  We had a great time chatting with her and it helped to kill the time until our lunch visitors would arrive.

When Suzanne and Heath arrived they got right to work preparing lunch.  They created small pizzas, each created specifically for that individual.  Then came the dessert.  The pizza dough was made from the recipe Suzanne, Heath and I practiced at our bread cooking lesson.

Since Suzanne had chosen 'Spring' as her theme, she had made vanilla cupcakes decorated with flowers for dessert.  However, upon closer inspection it became evident that there were more than just flowers on them.  There were also morel mushrooms either on top or just beginning to grow out of the 'ground'.  Heath added some of those.  Now that he is an experienced mushroom hunter, he was able to add realism to our cupcakes and not just art.  Everything was delicious.

After lunch, Mike took Suzanne and Heath for a ride in his new Jeep.  Suzanne wanted to go off roading but Mike did not want to get his vehicle dirty.

I do not know if it was disappointment in not getting a more exciting ride in the Jeep or not but Suzanne and Heath left soon after that.  They left Finn behind with us though.  Suzanne and Heath have a new dog Pongo who has some health issues and needs some peace and quiet.  That is not going to happen with Finn around so he gets to visit us for awhile.

Despite the sedate Jeep ride and rainy day, I think everyone enjoyed being together and sharing good food.  I know that I did.
