A Popular Destination Spot
Laura, Suzanne, Heath and Finn spent Saturday at the pond. As good hosts, Mike and I tried our best to keep them fed and entertained.
Suzanne and Heath arrived while I was in the middle of making a batch of tomato jam with tomatoes from my garden. They very obligingly agreed to taste test it on toasted Naan bread with goat cheese. With the help of Lois and Laura, they ate it all. This encouraged me to plan on making another batch once more tomatoes ripen.
Mike reminded them about our new kitty. It hangs out with the chickens over at the chicken coop. Mike has finally bought it cat food (prior to this he was feeding it catfish food) so the cat has learned to come when Mike calls. Since he only comes within three feet of Mike before scampering away, we have to conclude the kitten likes the chickens better than humans.
Heath and Suzanne spent some time trying to befriend the kitty. Heath concluded that the cat does not like women and then spent some time by himself coaxing the kitty to come to him. It did not work well but he was able to trail it back to its home in the woods near the coop.
Suzanne pointed out that it was two days from their second year anniversary so it was timely for a couple photo shoot at the gazebo. Laura was asked to be their photographer. Unfortunately the dogs wanted to get into the act. So finally Suzanne and Heath just decided to include them in the photo shoot.
Apparently once they decided to do that, then the dogs were not sure they wanted to be photographed. Lilly wandered off and Frankie turned temperamental and gave his back to the camera.
Finally the perfect group shot.
Then a Zurn family shot.
And a quick couple shot before the dogs come back.
Then I suggested that Laura, Suzanne and Heath go to the vegetable garden and collect a watermelon for Heath. He loves watermelon. It turned out to be a bit more involved than I expected. I thought Heath would just pick the biggest one but he had to take a scientific approach to determine if it was ripe. There was the thump test, the smell test and I do not know what else. Apparently it made the grade and they took it home.
Suzanne, Heath, Laura and, I assume, Finn had such a good time that they made plans to come back Labor Day weekend. Suzanne and Heath are even bringing some out of town guests with them. I do not know how we can plan enough activities of the calibre of those we did this weekend but I will try.
