A Convert

I have been married to Mike for thirty years now.  Over all that time he has slowly but steadily made me a convert of recliner chairs and sofas.  My last holdout was my living room.  When we moved into this house I had two swivel side chairs and a formal velour covered sofa in that room.  As of today, we still have the swivel chairs although one is stuck in a corner, one recliner chair that his mom uses when she is at our house, and a brand new recliner sofa.

The advantage of this new sofa besides the comfort and style that Laz-y-boy advertises, is that I can look straight at the television and put my legs up if I want.  For the nearly five years we have been in this house, I have had to put my shoeless feet up on the wood coffee table or lounge sideways on the couch for maximum comfort while watching television or reading.  Of course, if someone else was visiting and wanted to watch a show with me, then it was difficult for both of us to squeeze onto that couch comfortably for any length of time.  So in January, Mike and I decided to get a new one.

We went to O'Fallon, grabbed Suzanne who lives nearby, and visited the Laz-y-boy store.  When we all agreed on one model of recliner, I bought it.  We did not mind making Suzanne go to all this effort as 1) we bought her a coffee and 2) we were giving her our old sofa.

We had to do a bit of prep work to deliver the old sofa to Suzanne's house.  Mike measured to make sure it would fit in his truck and I packed up the cushions.  Yes, there was a collection of items under the cushions.  At first I was only finding bits of popcorn or hair pins but then I hit the jackpot.  There were a bunch of dog chews in the left hand corner where Lilly sits.  I think I have a good idea who put them there as that mess can not be blamed on me.

So last week, Mike arranged his weekly coffee date with Suzanne and brought her the old sofa at the same time.  They stuck it in her garage until Heath and a friend could get around to moving it into the house.  Turned out the timing was perfect as they were having a Super Bowl party that weekend and could use the extra seating.  They moved the 'new' sofa upstairs and took the upstairs sofa downstairs and set it next to their sectional sofa.  This made an U-shaped seating area that focused on their TV viewing.

Of course, this meant that we were without a sofa for a few days until we got our delivery.  That was a long few days.  Lilly and I had to share the same swivel chair and the room just looked off.

Finally it arrived, Lilly and I are very happy with our new seating.  I like being able to put my feet up comfortably while watching television and not resting them on a wood coffee table.  And the sofa looks good in the room.

However, now we have a new problem.  We had to move the coffee table so far in front of the sofa that it does not fit on the floor rug anymore.  We need a new bigger rug.  Oh well, Mike and I will head back to the furniture store as soon as I call Suzanne.
