No Fishing

Here it is the last week in March and Mike has yet to go fishing in his pond.  Part of the problem is that it has either been cold or rainy or both for the last month or so.  However, the other reason he has not been fishing is that he has not had the free time.  He has been spending every free moment resurfacing the nine year old dock.

Mike did his research and decided on using maintenance free composite deck boards.  It was no problem purchasing and picking up 60 boards to replace those already on the dock because he had his trailer.  We had a few scary moments pulling the loaded trailer into Morton Building #2 but Mike was able to park it just fine even with the rock pile blocking a straight run into the building.

At first Mike set up shop in Morton Building #1.  He cut the boards there and then took each board way over to the dock and installed it.  He felt he was wasting a lot of time walking between the dock and MB1 so then he decided to just precut all the boards and only move them to the dock once.

Another project slow down was the issue of the dock ladder.  Mike was afraid he would have to get into the water to take the ladder off the dock to get at the surface boards.   He really did not want to do that in our cold weather.  Fortunately, it turned out Mike did not have to get into the water to remove the ladder from the dock boards so the project was able to continue.

Even with all of Mike's efficiency, this project has taken weeks.  This is because of the rain.  Every time, he was ready to work outside on the dock, the weather would not cooperate.  Finally though, we had some nice weather.

It was so nice I sent two of my assistance foreman to oversee the job.  They were good.  Mike was able to complete the entire surface area of the dock except for the steps.

Finally though the project is complete.  Now Mike can go fishing.
