Happy Feet

When I got up this morning the temperature was 31 degrees.  I went out to check on the chickens and ducks and found only one duck egg for the second morning in a row.  I decided I had unhappy ducks and something must be done to cheer them up.  And I knew just what to do.

I put water in the duck pool.

Fortunately I had been able to remove the ice from the duck pool yesterday so all I had to do this morning was fill it with water.  The ducks were so excited to see water pouring from the hose into the pool that Abigail forgot her fear of me and jumped right in.  She stayed in the entire time I filled the pool.  I had a front row seat for her bath.  It was like being in the front row seat at the whale demonstration at Sea World.  She splashed quite a bit of water on me.

In the forefront of the picture you can see the ice I dumped out of the duck pool yesterday.
In the pool you can see Amelia flapping her wings and spraying water everywhere.  Definitely a happy duck.
I don't know if it was a result of the warmer weather or that duck exuberance was contagious but the chickens have been more active today also.  They chose to hang around the duck pool too.
