Thwarting Winifred

Winifred, the smallest hen, never does what I want her to do except lay eggs.  When I first got here, she began sleeping in the nests and encouraging the other hens to do so.  Chickens are not suppose to sleep in nests they are suppose to sleep on roosts.  To make a long story short, we built a new hen house and put in a portable nest.  I would take the nest out at night so she had no option but to sleep on the roost.

Then she began sleeping on the roost but in a spot where she could dive bomb the ducks with her poop.  I could be wrong about her reasoning but she did pick a roosting spot that I didn't have a poop tray directly underneath.  I fixed this problem.  I finally found a small tray that just fit in that unprotected spot.  The ducks could now sleep in their nest with fear of being hit from above.

At that point, Winifred moved her roosting spot.  In this spot, she dive bombs my tools with her poop and misses any poop trays altogether.

Laura took this picture when she was chicken sitting.  She thought she had lost Winifred until she looked up.
Ellen, the black hen, is on the roost and right over the poop trays.  Exactly where she is suppose to be.
Not Winifred.  She is above the tools.
So I asked Mike to fix this problem which he did.  Last night, Winifred was forced to move back to her old roosting spot.  The only problem?  She was the first one out of the coop this morning and she gave me an earful.  She was screeching so loudly she woke Mike up.  I assume she was telling me her opinion of the changes we made.  We will have to see what sleeping option she comes up with next.

Mike put netting behind the board.  There isn't enough room left for her to sit on the board.
