Just a normal winter's day

This recent spell of very cold and snowy weather has restricted Mike and my activities to staying at the pond and not venturing any further than Greenville for church or groceries.  Take today for example.

I still began the day taking care of the dogs and chickens.  Although I have streamlined the chicken routine quite a bit.  I don't use a hose to fill the chickens water bowls.  Now I carry a bucket of water and I only fill one water bowl.  Last night I even stacked the food bowl right next to the front door (along with the food) so I could minimize the steps it would take to get feed to the chicken pen.

Mike makes the coffee while I am doing this and then we wait to see if the construction crew are going to successfully complete the forty five minute trip down here from Litchfield in this cold weather.  They always do.

I'm not sure if Mabel would brave the cold to run across the street just to get to Frank's house for a treat, but, just in case, Mike still drives her over.  When he comes back we go for our 2 mile walk.

Today, Mike made me lunch.  Red potatoes were on sale at Wayne's Market last weekend and I bought some.  Mike made Granny's Tator recipe.  As always it was delicious.

As for the rest of the day, we met with Larry our builder over at the new house and then I did the laundry while Mike had to go back across the street to pick up Mabel.  Because of the cold, I had to stop what I was doing periodically to go check the chicken house for chicken eggs.  I don't want those eggs to freeze.  All told today we set a record.  We had two duck eggs and two hen eggs.

Our day winds down at four p.m. when the construction workers leave.  Mike and I rush over to check out the changes they have wrought for the day.

Today they built in the fireplace and framed the soffits that are over our cabinets.
They are running out of things to do while waiting for the insulator and plumber to complete their tasks.
All in all, I am hoping for warmer weather as soon as possible.  The ducks are missing their daily swims and the brick layers are chomping at the bit to get our brick installed.  I would like to take a walk in a few less layers of clothing and Mike would like to drive to Edwardsville so he can get his haircut.  Only time will tell.
