Snow Geese

Mike and I passed several flocks of snow geese on our way to and from church on Sunday.  After doing some research on the Internet I have learned the following:

Snow Geese fly in more "U" shaped patterns instead of the "V" shape that the Canada geese follow.

Adult Snow Geese have white heads but their bodies can be primarily white or "blue".  However, some juvenile "blue" geese may look all black including the heads.

Snow geese sleep while sitting, standing on one leg, or swimming.

In the winter, snow geese will eat grains and the stems of farm crops.

Watching snow geese in flight can be a spectacular sight.

An Illinois Snow Geese Sightings report stated that on February 10, 2015
there were 25 Canada Geese and 158,000 Snow Geese
on Carlyle Lake which is located approximately 30 miles from our pond.
