Traditions

Apparently on this day for the last 129 years, the residents of Punxsutawney Pennsylvania have been following a tradition called Groundhog Day.  I learned all about it on the groundhog.org website.  The residents of Punxsutawney know of a 129 year old groundhog who lives in Gobbler's Knob and can predict the weather.

Legend has it that if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow on February 2, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.   This year he saw his shadow so there will be six more weeks of winter.

Here at the pond our February 2 began like any other.  Mike and I and all the dogs we could round up at that particular moment went for a walk in the woods.

Here are Mike and Gracie on their walk.

We stopped at the pond to take a picture.

I also took this shot.

I'm now wondering if Gracie has any weather prognostication abilities.  After all a 129 year old groundhog can not live forever.  We maybe should be looking for a replacement.
