Spring 2015

Today is the second day of spring.  It was great.  We had the windows open to enjoy the warm fresh air.  I planted some vegetables and herbs.  Mike went fishing twice - once before lunch and once after lunch.  He caught 9 fish.  This may become my favorite season.

This is why Mike hasn't been catching as many fish as he would like.
Buddy, the golden retriever, runs up and down the bank when Mike is out in the boat.
Mike says Buddy chases away all the fish on that side of the pond and she will continue to 'fish' as long as Mike fishes.
Mike took this picture from the boat as proof of his claim.

We actually began planting our fruits and vegetables when Emily was here over her spring break.  I had bought grow bags off the Internet so we could begin planting even though it wasn't technically warm enough.  The grow bags have the productivity of raised beds but they are movable.  So when the nights drop below freezing, we were able to move the bags and plants inside.

We planted strawberries in the gray bags and
red potatoes in the white bag.

When the temperature over night was projected to fall to 31 degrees,
we moved the strawberry plants into the garage using the wagon.

I had also found some herbs at Buckheits that I planted
in last years raised beds.  Of course I did this right before the temperature dropped.
I tried to save them.  I covered them with cut off empty plastic bottles I had in the recycling bin.
I only lost the basil.
And I was able to buy more of it today.
