Would the real 'dog room' please stand up?

One of the more unusual features in our new home is the dog room.  It is a small room that opens to the outside and has a second door that opens into the basement.  There are dog doors in both of these doors.  The room was designed for our two outside dogs Buddy, the golden retriever, and Little Girl, a smaller white mutt.  While Mike and I moved into the house last Thursday, Buddy and Little Girl have not been so ready to leave the shed.

Buddy and Little Girl have been living in the part of the shed that is unheated and not air conditioned. It also is very noisy when it rains because of the tin roof overhead.  So we thought they would be ecstatic to move into the air conditioned house.  But despite feeding them in the dog room and giving them treats there they still wouldn't stay in the room.  After several nights of avoiding the dog room totally, Mike finally coaxed them into the room and locked them in.  This worked so well that Buddy didn't leave for two days.  He loved the air conditioning twenty four hours a day.  Little Girl still leaves in the morning and spends most of the day in our new garage which lacks air conditioning and comfortable dog beds.

In the meantime, Mike and I were concerned about the indoor dogs shedding on the nice furniture upstairs so we ordered a gate.  (To be honest, I was concerned about the indoor dogs shedding on my good furniture and Mike suggested the gate.)  The gate went between the kitchen and the mud room.  This is what my mud room looks like with the new gate.

Blackie, Mabel and Gracie are in the mud room.
Blackie, who is visiting with Laura,  is looking at us in the kitchen.
Mike feeds the dogs in the mud room.
The stairs to the basement are through the open door in the background.

So now I am thinking we should just call the mud room the dog room because that is where the indoor dogs spend most of their time.  It seems only fitting.
