Greenville 200th Birthday Party

Mike and I went to Greenville's 200th Birthday Party on Saturday, September 5th.

Here is the display created by the bakery Sweetest Things.
They made 200 cupcakes to commemorate the occasion.  I was the first adult in line.
I was afraid the icing would melt if I waited any longer.

The town of Greenville recycled the cake that the St Louis 250th anniversary organization left at
the site of the Greenville Carnegie Library.  The high school art club repainted the cake with
scenes from Greenville then and now.

I found time during the day to stop at the Hoiles-Davis Museum which is run by the
Greenville Historical Society.  The sign says that Abraham Lincoln sat here on September 13, 1858 just before he gave
a campaign speech to a crowd in Greenville Illinois.

Possibly the most popular item with the 10 and under crowd when they visit the Hoiles-Davis Museum.
It is the first dental X-ray machine ever in Greenville.

Mike and I got to meet Mr. Peanut and check out the Planter Peanut Mobile.

The Busy Bee was a popular diner in Greenville back in his grandmothers time.
Rumor has it that the building that housed the Busy Bee is being renovated to be
a coffee shop.
As Bill Donnell says '...a 70 year old riding a 130 year old bicycle at a 200 year birthday party!'
