Looking for Fall

Fall is my favorite season of the year.  Fall is why I wanted to move to Illinois.  I wanted to see four seasons.  In Houston, we only have two.  Summer which lasts nine months and winter which lasts three.  If you live there long enough you actually can tell when it is fall.  That is when the weather cools off and the leaves change and then fall.  It lasts about two weeks.

So I have been carefully looking for all the signs that fall is upon us.

On October first the temperature dropped so much that Mike had to find a sweatshirt to wear when he
was doing his early morning chicken chores.
We even were able to open the windows and enjoy the cooler weather.  Something else that rarely happened in Houston.

Now that we are in the house and the mountain of dirt that was in the back yard has been leveled off,
I watch for signs of the leaves changing from our back balcony.
Not much of that happening yet but it sure is a beautiful view.

It is harvest time.
Our farmer has already removed all our corn.
Here is a picture of him using a combine to harvest the corn on Frank's farm.
When they are harvesting corn on the farms all around us, I have to be very attentive on my daily walks.
It can be dangerous walking on these single lane country roads with all the huge farm equipment being driven around.
And it is festival season.
I attended the Apple Festival in Greenville last Saturday where I bought apples
so I can make homemade apple butter for Emily and her roommate Dana.

And the best part is that there are still more days of the fall season to enjoy.  According to a website I just found (and as of this writing) I have 77 days, 1 hour, 34 minutes and 54 seconds to go.
