Out of the Ordinary

There have been two unusual events that have occurred this week.  The first occurred on Monday morning when Frank, Mike's dad, asked Mike to go to the store with him.  That wasn't the unusual event.  What was unusual was the item he wished to purchase.  Frank wanted to buy a smartphone.

So the two men when off to the AT&T store in Vandalia.  Frank bought a smartphone.  The man who up until now has only had a phone for which he buys minutes only when he needs them now has a service plan.  And the man who never wanted to text has the ability to text both his sons.  I ,for one, thought this was a great idea.  Now when the basset hounds disappear from their respective homes, the guys can text each other to see if they have seen the missing canine on their side of the street.

Monday evening Mike received his first text from his father.  It was in response to one that Mike had sent him reminding him that the Bear game was on television that night and giving him the time and station.  Frank texted back, 'OK go I'.  We interpreted that to be 'OK. Got it.'  I can see that Frank texting is going to be very useful.

The other unusual event involved Suzanne.  She began a new job this week.  She is an Human Resources Associate with the Dallas Zoo.  Some of her responsibilities will be handling payroll and helping new employees with their HR paperwork.  Here is a picture of her on the first day of the job.  It looks like she is already at work helping a new employee acclimate to his workplace.

Only kidding!  Although when Emily saw this picture she wrote back to Suzanne and asked, 'Shouldn't you be paying someone or something?'

Actually Suzanne is at employee orientation for two days.  Here is the picture she sent us today.  I can't wait to find out what happens when she finally gets into the HR office!

All in all it has been an extraordinary week so far.
