The New Buddy

Buddy hasn't looked too good this fall.  First of all his hair inexplicitly fell out.  It fell out so bad he had hairless patches on him.  This had never happened before.  He also started limping but that has happened before.  We think the limping could be attributable to old age because it seems to be worse in the colder weather.

So we took Buddy to the vet.  The vet diagnosed thyroid problems and Buddy has to take medicine daily.  She also said it would take about six weeks for us to notice any improvement.  The improvements we were looking for besides hair regrowth was an upswing in her energy level.  Symptoms of thyroid problems are not just hair loss but general lethargy.

It has been four weeks since Buddy started his medicine.  In that time, Buddy has gotten new hairless patches and has spent lots of time sleeping in the dog room.  That was concerning.  On the other hand, Buddy has had new hair coming in and it has been cold outside so anyone with any sense would stay inside.

Today however, was a warm day.  Mike took Buddy and Gracie for a walk through the timber.  Buddy had a grand time.  Seemed like a new dog.  He wasn't even limping.
