Wearing Out a Three Month Old
Puppy

They say a well exercised puppy is a well behaved puppy.  Mike is spending a lot of his time ensuring that Frankie gets his exercise.  If Mike does his job well, all of us get some well deserved peace and quiet immediately after the exercise period.

When it is a warm day which today was, Mike starts the day by taking all the dogs for a walk.  They are usually gone for forty five minutes.  Up until yesterday, Frankie stayed pretty close to Mike during the hikes around the property.  Yesterday's walk was longer.

Blackie is visiting us so Mike didn't realize Frankie had gone missing until he looked closer at the black dog at his feet.  Mike had to retrace his steps to eventually find Frankie hanging with Mabel.

After Mike got home, he threw Mabel and Frankie in the truck and went over to visit Emily, Frank's dog.  This is a daily occurrence.  Emily and Frankie love to rough house together and we are happy to have them do so.  This always wears Frankie out.  With the addition of the longer walk today though, Frankie was a little tired.  All three dogs fell asleep.  This never happens.

Mike came home and Frankie took a nap.  All was peaceful and calm at our house.  Today we had an errand to run.  We took Blackie to the vet for his annual checkup.  Of course when we came back Frankie was raring to go again.  Mike took him over to Frank's house to play.  While there Mike picked up Mabel from doggie day care and brought everyone home for another nap.

Then began the evening routine.  Mike and Frankie went to put the chickens and ducks to bed.  This is never enough of a walk to wear Frankie out or keep in entertained.  He eventually lost interest and wondered away.  When this happens Frankie usually comes in the doggie door in the basement but not necessarily.  Sometimes he comes to the front door and sometimes he comes to the garage door.  Mike and I get our exercise checking all doors for him repeatedly until he deigns to show up.  Sometimes I wonder who is exercising who.

Ha! Great observation. And all those naps sound pretty wonderful.
