Mother's Day Weekend Part 2

Emily arrived at the farm late on Saturday night.  She brought a wrapped present for me but I had to wait until Sunday to open it.  She and Laura were really excited about it.  However, Emily managed to distract herself from obsessing over my opening my present by obsessing over Frankie instead.

Sunday morning, Mike and I went to church and came back to find the girls had prepared a breakfast of scrambled duck eggs and pancakes.  It was delicious.  Then I opened my present.  I received slogger shoes.  Emily and Suzanne had spotted these in Dallas.  A vendor was selling these at the State Fair.  They immediately thought of me because they had chickens on them.

Slogger shoes are garden shoes.  They are 100% waterproof so they will be perfect for working in the garden and collecting eggs from the chicken coop.  My only concern is whether they are Frankie proof.  Frankie chews on all shoes left on the boot trays in the garage.  So I moved one of the boot trays inside next to the front door and am keeping my new chicken shoes there.

After I opened my present, we headed to Eckerts in Belleville.  They were having a strawberry festival but more importantly, they had just opened they strawberry fields to allow patrons to pick their own.  Mike stayed at the car to dogsit Blackie, listen to the Cub game and take a nap.  The girls and I hopped on the free wagon ride with our baskets and picked strawberries.

We picked 15.3 pounds of strawberries and then headed inside the store to do some shopping.  Mike joined us.  I was going to be good and buy something healthy for dinner but instead we bought Emily strawberry shortcake mix, and some great pastries.  Mike found the best tasting cinnamon rolls he has yet to have in Illinois so I know I will be able to get him to return.

We planned to end the day sitting Emily in front of the chicken coop so she could watch the new chicken door close at dusk but it started to rain so we had to give up on that activity.  Nevertheless, it was a very enjoyable Mother's Day weekend.
