Flowers
We had our front yard landscaped last fall. The landscaper gave us a plot plan but I can not find it. (I think Mike has it.) So this spring has been full of surprises as I try to identify the plants as they were blooming.
The rhododendron was the first to bloom in March. I have never had this plant before. It is the largest one out there and seems to thrive in its location.
I think the lilac tree and the azaleas bloomed around the same time in early May. I forgot to take a picture of the azaleas. I was actually a little disappointed that the landscaper gave me azaleas. I have had them in at least two of my previous houses and they have always given me trouble or more accurately I have given them trouble. Of course that was in Houston. Maybe they are easier to grow here.
The other tree we have is a dogwood tree. It bloomed really late this year. Hopefully when it is better established next year it will have a more fuller look.
Much to my surprise the next plants to bloom were the two hydrangeas. They began blooming late May. I tried growing these plants in Houston. The neighbor planted some in her backyard and Mike kept raving about how nice they looked. I felt pressured so I bought some. One plant survived but actually getting blooms was iffy. Hope these do better.
Here are our daylilies. I love these flowers and apparently so does the entire town of Greenville because they are everywhere this time of year. A lot of people have both the orange and the yellow.
This next picture is not from our professionally landscaped garden. It is a purple flower on my eggplants. Once blog reader Meg told me what to look for I went back out to the garden and there was one purple bloom. Considering that the leaves on this plant look like lace because they have been eaten so much by bugs, I was very excited to see this flower. Who knew gardening could be so exciting?
