Chicks
The Peterson menagerie has grown larger. We added 6 chicks to our poultry flock.
This is all Sela and Eli's fault. They came to visit and Mike and I thought they would enjoy playing with the chicks. When I mentioned this idea to Suzanne while I was talking to her on the phone one day, she said, 'They (Sela and Eli) get all the good stuff.'
So last Thursday, we took Sela and Eli took Buchheit's and had them pick out six chicks (the minimum you can purchase). In case you are wondering, a chick costs about $3.50. Of course, you need food, electrolytes, probiotics, a heat lamp with bulb, special water and food dispenser, pine shavings and something to put them in. At least, unlike a puppy, they do not keep you up at night whining for their mother. The chicks seemed very happy to move in with us.
The clerk at the store said we could hold the chicks as much as we wanted. The goal is to get the chicks to learn to trust us humans. So we make a point of holding all six chicks several times a day. Fortunately we have many volunteers for this activity.
