Saturday

Emily and I had our sewing class this weekend.  The fabric store is in Fairview Heights but almost in O'Fallon.  I mention this because between these two towns there is every store I know.  Not only is my favorite fabric store here (as well as some expert quilters) but a mall, a Target, craft stores, Sam's, Lowe's, Barnes and Nobles, Office Max, several Starbucks, and well, you get the picture.  Finally a place I can go where most every store I can think of is in one place.  Of course, it is about 75 minutes from my house but you can not have everything.

So Emily and I learned how to make the Courthouse Steps Quilt.  We were there for three hours and each of us made two blocks.  We each only have 46 more blocks to go.  Still we were inspired but more than ready for lunch at the end of the three hours.

We met Laura for lunch at Chipotles.  If you haven't already guessed, Emily likes this area almost as much as I do.  Once she found a Chipotles and realized this area was closer to Carbondale than either Laura's or my home, she was thrilled.  I foresee other quilt classes for the two of us in the future.

After lunch we convinced Laura to go shopping at the mall.  I bought clothes, Laura bought clothes and Emily bought earrings.  Mike called looking for me.  The girls took off and I then did some errands at Sam's and Walmart.  Needless to say, I got home late.

Whereas I was so hungry, I had to eat my dinner in the car, Emily got home early enough to make her dinner.  I had sent her home with two of my thirteen or so spaghetti squashes.  It is real easy for me to know I have that many spaghetti squash because the plant is dying.  All I can see are dead leaves and fairly good size squashes that are turning yellow.  I think I pruned it too much.

Anyway, Emily agreed to be the guinea pig.  Were the squash ready to eat or not?  She says not.  They are still little under ripe so I will leave the rest on the vine.  Looks like they made a great dinner though.

When I got home, Mike and I opened a bottle of wine I had bought that day and sat on the balcony and gazed at the pond.  All in all it was a great day.  And, did I mention that I have another quilt class on Wednesday in Fairview Heights?  Looks like it will be a great week too.
