Cubs VS Cardinals in St. Louis
Last Monday, Mike and I got invited to watch the Cubs play the Cardinals in St. Louis. We went with a group of Greenville Vet Clinic employees. Our neighbor is one of the vets that works there and her family had watched our animals last month when we went to watch the Cubs play in Chicago. I think they half expected Mike to turn down the tickets as he had explained to them at one point how he disliked watching the Cubs play at Busch Stadium since he is among the minority of fans rooting for the away team. Nevertheless we went.
We took the Redbird express bus from Fairview Heights to the game. It only cost $5 round trip and it allowed us to do some shopping at Menards while waiting for the bus. We decided to take this opportunity to buy the last of the pleated shades for our windows in the house. The only windows still not covered were in the eating and living area. At this time of year we get sun in those windows while we are eating. Another item to check off my home improvement list. Of course, this meant that Mike had to install them. But despite having lots to do and so little time in which to do it (that is a quote), he moved it to the top of his list and got the job done.
Fairview Heights is an hour drive from our house. So between the drive, shopping and the game we were gone a long time. This caused a problem. What were we going to do about the little chicks? We had been keeping them outside during the day in one of the runs attached to the big chicken coop. The other chickens were blocked from entering that run or the big coop as long as the little guys were there. This drove the grown chickens crazy when it gets dark because they want to put themselves to bed on their roosts but they could not get to them. What to do? We finally decided that this day was as good a day as any to let the chickens (and ducks) commingle. See tomorrows post to find out how that went.
