Crops are Out

Mike and I were taking our evening walk when we saw our farmers busy harvesting corn.

Our farmers rent this field just like they rent our small fields.  This field, however, is much bigger than ours.  In the picture above, you see one truck waiting for the combine to drive over and off load the corn.   However, this field is so big, they actually have two trucks.  The other truck was way over on the other side of the field where the combine was working.  The combine would be able to unload in that truck without driving all the way across the field where the first truck was stationed.  This maximized the amount of time the combine was actually working.

Upon returning home, we saw the second truck finishing unloading into the first truck as the combine returned to also off load.

Within 24 hours of taking these photos, our much smaller fields had been harvested also.  Mike was much relieved.  These were some of the shortest cornstalks we had ever seen and he was embarrassed to have people drive up to the house past our corn.  Now no evidence remain of our stunted stalks.
