First Signs of Fall

I had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte on September  4.

Steam is seen rising from the pond at sunrise because the nights are getting cooler.

My azaleas bloom.  Turns out I have fall blooming azalea.  Who knew?

The tall stalks of corn seem to go on forever.
Wooly worms start crossing the road.

According to myth, the width of the brown strips or bands on the backs of wooly worms
determines the length of winter.  Since none of the wooly worms I have seen so far have had
strips, I am unable to make any prediction and I will just have to remain in suspense concerning
the length of our upcoming winter.

Mike is seen fishing on the pond.
Of course, he can be seen fishing at almost any time of year so
this is not a unique sight to the fall season.

I plant mums.  Mums are always on sale this time of year so I buy
a bunch of $2 mums and plant them where no other plants have survived.
Here I am increasing the odds that this plant will survive by surrounding it with
unused plant stands.  Hopefully these will prevent the dogs from walking across my mum or doing anything else
that might harm the plant.
The dogs have definitely been a contributing factor to the death of the previous two plants that have been in this spot.

Love these! We're so ready for the new season here and the weather has turned tantalizingly cool and dry. Of course, next week may be 100 degrees, but for now, we can savor that little nip of Fall!
