Mother Nature
Despite the fact that temperatures have been fluctuating between the 50's and the teens, Mike's dad and my thoughts have been leaning towards spring. I attending a herb growing class and Frank had his elm trees that line the driveway trimmed.
My class was an community education class about growing herbs indoors. However, the instructor, an expert in horticulture, spent a lot of time recommending that we grow all our plants from seeds (preferably seeds we harvest ourselves), so I learned more about that topic than about herb growing specifically. As a result, right now my homework is sitting on the kitchen table trying to grow.
We came home with the seeds of three herbs planted in small pots. I chose basil, parsley and cilantro. These pots have been placed inside another pot so I can keep water in the bottom. I learned you do not want to saturate your seeds so they either need to be misted or let the soil draw water up front the bottom of the pot.
I do not have high hopes that my homework will earn me a passing grade. There is just not enough sunlight in my kitchen to encourage the seeds to grow. Still, at least now I can say I tried. This is not something I have ever attempted before.
So now Frank and I are waiting. Frank is waiting to see his trees grow back into beautifully shaped and healthy trees. While I am waiting until the stores carry spring plantings so I can buy some basil, parsley and cilantro plants.
