They're baack!

The geese have returned.  There first day back we noticed the same dynamic as before.  Two loner geese standing off from the remainder of the group.  It did not seem to be a friendly standoff and it was definitely loud.

However as the days went by, we started to have a hard time keeping track of our two loner geese.  That is because the number of geese visitors in growing.  On Saturday we had 43 geese plus the two loners and 4 live wood ducks (we are not counting the decoys).  By Sunday, we had 58 geese and 5 wood ducks.

By the time we got to 58 geese, it is was too hard to spot any loner geese.  However, since the noise is getting louder we are beginning to suspect there is some in fighting.  You can see in the picture below that several of the geese are flapping their wings.  This may be a sign of this bird wants to defend their territory because then a chase usually follows.

Fighting amongst themselves is not the only notes of discord for these geese.  They have to worry about bigger four legged animals hanging around the pond.  When this happens, they unite in their concern about the interlopers and their need to get rid of them.  That's how I know Frankie and Buddy are hanging out down by the pond because the noise gets louder.

Apparently, the popularity of the Peterson pond as a geese destination spot is continuing.  I do not know how much longer the supply of corn in the corn field can sustain them but is sure is fun to have some neighbors even if they are a bit feisty.
