Keeping Busy
It feels like I am in a holding pattern. Each day I keep expecting spring weather but it does not happen. Spring brings with it all sorts of outdoors activities. Without spring weather, I am still stuck inside looking for things to do.
The other day, on one of our warmer winter days, I went out on to the balcony and tried to transplant my little seedlings. My success so far is mixed. I did not read the instructions until after I separated the new plants into individual containers. As a result, I handled the stems instead of the leaves and caused all the basil itty bitty seedlings to die from crushed stems. The parsley fared better. They are still alive. Of the cilantro seedlings, only three cilantro grew. One died before transplanting and the others are barely hanging in there. Plus, now I have twice as many pots and no warm weather. Each day I move my plants around the house chasing the sun and avoiding the heat registers.
I have also been sewing. I am still working on Christmas projects that did not get done for last Christmas. At least I will be ahead for this Christmas. Here is a picture of a table runner I made for Suzanne. She has poinsettia china and this will look great on her dining table.
I also have been reading and as a result I visit the library a lot. They are making it more fun to visit the library by having theme days. On Monday of this last week, it was National Popcorn Day. The movie theater sponsored free popcorn at the library along with a scratch and sniff bookmark. I made sure to drop by on Monday. Just walking in the library made me hungry. It smelled great.
Mike and I also spend our time looking out the kitchen window at our geese. Depending on the day we will either see a group of six, a pair or none. Sometimes they are getting along and sometimes they are not. Sometimes they are swimming around and sometimes they are dozing in the sun. Always, they are entertaining.
Only nine more days until spring officially begins and brings with it outdoor activities. Surely, I can find enough to do to keep me busy inside until then.
