Readjusting to Normal

With Sela and Eli gone, Mike and I have had to reassume our normal activities.  Although there is still evidence that Sela and Eli were here.

We have a large box of Lucky Charms left over.  I only buy this when Sela and Eli visit but apparently getting rid of the leftover Lucky Charms will not be a problem.    It is one of Mike's favorite cereals and he is eager to eat the remainder.  He could not even wait for breakfast.

On their last day at the pond, we went to get Sela and Eli some Amish soft pretzels at about noon, but they were nearly out of them.  Since there was only one left, I, as a good host, let Eli and Sela split it.  Unfortunately I spent the next week thinking about this lost opportunity.  So this past Saturday, Mike and I made a special early morning trip (I did not want to take the chance that they were sold out again) to Vandalia to get a few more.

Sela and Eli had just begun working on decorating ceramic tile coasters or trivets the last day of their visit.  They were not able to finish.  I could not leave a project half done so I went ahead and picked up where they left off.  This pretty much involved sealing the tiles that were covered with drops of alcohol ink with an engine enamel spray that had to be cured in the oven.  Now when Sela and Eli come back they will have coasters available in the basement for their Gatorade bottles or they will have a place to set their water bottles when they visit Laura as she wants a couple of them.

I however, will not be using these coasters.  I have my very own crocheted coasters that Sela made for me.  One is in my office and one is next to the chaise lounge that is the basement.  I also have a crocheted ball and a cute crocheted little Easter basket favor that she made me.  Every time I use my coffee coasters or look at my mantel decorations, I think of Sela and of her trying to teach me to crochet.  I think, at the minimum, I will need a few more lessons before I can make anything as useful as what she has made.

So even though Eli and Sela have resumed their normal activities back in California, they are still thought of often here at the pond.  I do hope however, that by the time they come for a return visit it is finally a bit warmer here.  It is thirty degrees here on April 16 and we are still getting snow!

Even the geese look cold!
