More Chickens
Mike decided he wanted some chicks. I did not want anymore chickens but I went with him to the store because I wanted to pick them out.
The first thing we noticed at Buchheits was that Penelope the pig was gone. We met the young lady who took Penelope home to her farm. I wish Penelope well in her retirement.

Then we or I selected our six chickens. We got two Ameraucana chicks otherwise known as miniature Winifreds for those of you who know our chickens. They will lay blue eggs. Winifred is a very intelligent chicken who will allow us to pet her. Hopefully, her two new sisters will be just like her. So far they seem to be very docile and gentle. This may also have something to do with the fact that they are younger and thus smaller than the other four fowl. They also have not been named.
My next selection was two Black Minorca Chickens. One website described these chickens as 'graceful and energetic snenioritas that share their name with a beautiful island off the west coast of Spain'. Supposedly they lay enormous ghostly white eggs. They are reported to be friendly but flightly which certainly seems to be the case with our two. They get overly excited when we try to clean their cage and they will find a way to escape if it is at all possible. Thank goodness Mike had the foresight to build a better lid for their living quarters or they might have been long gone by now. I have named them Thelma and Louise.

For my last selection of chicken breeds, I chose the Plymouth White Rock Chicken. We already have two Plymouth Barred Rock chickens who are black and white. These chickens will be all white and lay brown eggs. They are supposedly excellent layers and will lay almost daily. This is good because Mike's goal is a dozen eggs a day although I cannot imagine why he wants that many eggs.

Mike keeps telling them what lucky birds they are to be able to live in the garden spot of the world. I hope they still feel that way when they meet their grown up sisters in a few months.
