Planting at the Pond
I did not get any pictures of the farmer farming our land. First, he has such big equipment that by the time I realize he was on our land he was already leaving. He just got done so fast. Second, I did not realize that he was not going to till the ground before he planted our soy beans. As a result, when he was here I did not realize he was doing anything important.
The first time I saw our farmer on our property he was actually spreading some sort of weed killer. I could tell it was working when the green corn field filled with corn stubs from last year turned brown.
Shortly after that our farmer returned and planted the soy bean seed into the field with brown corn stubble. He knew what he was doing because sure enough a few days later we could see the new crop breaking through the soil of last years corn fields.
Now it looks like this. You can hardly see the corn stubble anymore.
I too have been planting. My peppers were the first to flower.
But I had to pull my broccoli and feed the plants to the chicken. I must have planted it too late in the season because the leaves grew huge but no broccoli plant every formed and then the plants started to wilt in the hot sun. So I bought sweet potato plants to replace them. We will see how well they do. I have never grown them before but Emily asked me to try.
The other new plant that I am trying to grow this year is watermelon. Once the girls and Mike finished the new ground raised bed I had to go back to the store and pick some plants to fill it. I decided to go for zucchini since I am usually very successful when I grow that. I am actually so successful at zucchini I just could not see buying more than one plant. So to fill the raised bed I went ahead and got a watermelon plant.
My hope is that both the farmer and I are successful with our plants this year.
