Atypical February Weekend

Laura, Suzanne and Heath visited the pond this weekend.  Suzanne and Heath (with their cat Shark) have taken to spending the weekdays in St. Louis but are come to the pond on the weekends to see their dog.  Laura joined them this weekend and of course, Grandma, spends a lot of time with us too.  We also had a lot of geese on the pond and it was an unseasonably warm sixty degrees.  A consequence of all these visitors and warm weather was that everyone was energized.  Instead of relaxing and enjoying down time, everyone was busy on projects.

After Laura and I brought back soft pretzels for everyone, Mike and Laura suddenly saw the need to take six dogs for a walk and expend some calories.  I was afraid they would disturb the geese but apparently not.

Heath took up wood chopping.  We now have quite a pile of wood over by the shed.  He used homemade wood wedges, a rubber mallet and a red oak tree trunk that had fallen over by the chicken coop.

Suzanne planned and executed a Super Bowl party which was the first one ever held at the pond.  We had beef or mushroom sliders served with homemade guacamole and queso sauce served on toasted buns with tomatoes and kale.  We also had homemade salsa (my contribution) with chips and Super Bowl cupcakes.  Heath manned the grill and the bar.  He also made the guacamole with some suggestions from his wife.  Laura, Grandma and I reaped the benefits of their partnership and Mike enjoyed the dessert.

All in all this weekend was so much fun, I can hardly wait to see what happens next weekend!

Those are some good looking logs. I bet they will turn into great lumber in 6 to 8 months.
