Last 'Free' Weekend

This was the last weekend that Suzanne and Heath spent at the farm as 'unencumbered with a house' adults.  They would be buying their house the next Friday and moving in that weekend.  But right now they were free to enjoy their weekend off with no house to do list.

Well, that is not strictly true.  They did pack their car with all their worldly possessions that they had stored in the shed apartment.  But they also....

...got to enjoy the sunny and warmer weather by taking the boat out on the pond.

Heath actually got out there to fish several times.  He had to go more than once because he kept getting stranded.  Seems we need to replace some boat batteries.  I felt I was failing as a hostess when not only did my guest discover ineffective batteries but he could not get back to shore because the emergence backup paddle was broken.  We have since rectified both problems.

When Suzanne was not busy enjoying the sunshine with Heath either walking in the woods or boating with the dogs, she was in the house.  She spent quite a bit of time using up more of our bread dough from the cooking class we attended the previous week.  I do not know if that was her original plan but I found the dough overflowing its containers in the freezer so we felt we had to use it up.

She ended up making breakfast pizza that Heath, Suzanne and I had for dinner.  It was made with asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes, and roasted garlic parmesian sauce.  Suzanne marinated the vegetables in balsamic glaze.  She also made individual pizzas including a pepperoni for Grandma.

Afterwards there was still dough left so Suzanne with sous chefs Heath and Lilly fried donut holes.  We rolled them in cinnamon sugar and honey.  Everyone enjoyed them including Grandma.  And there was still enough left that the next day we were treated to a homemade loaf of bread.

Suzanne and I also found time to craft.  We made mini wall hangings with homemade felt flowers.   While we were doing this,  Heath did some chores around the house for me.  One of his chores was to put a plastic green garter snake inside the wreath that we had bought at a craft show earlier in the month.  The wreath was hanging outside the shed on the porch and birds were trying to build a nest in it.  I wanted the snake to scare them away but not be visible to people walking by.  Now I need to wait and see if this method works at keeping birds out of my wreath.

Hopefully a relaxing weekend was had by all of us because next weekend will be just the opposite!
