Laura's Spring Break at the Pond
Laura came to spend part of her spring break at the pond. I think she intended to relax a bit, participate in a 5k with her mom, and complete a craft project that she had thought up. She did accomplish all of that but there may not have been as much relaxing as she intended. Her problem was that Mike and I had a few projects on which we needed Laura's help.
Laura arrived while Mike was moving rock into my garden area. Rocking the ground will eliminate weeding on my part and edging on Mike's part. It was a great idea but Laura got coerced into spreading the rock. Her Apple Watch would not even give her exercise credit for all her efforts. She was not pleased.
Laura's craft or practical joke project took all day Friday. She wanted to decorate scarves for her CrossFit team that had just won a competition. They apparently had a tough fight with another team at her gym and she wanted to identify the winning team members by giving them each a scarf. This was a nice thought but she also wanted to emphasize the non-winners by referencing their team on the scarves. Maybe not so nice but apparently funny. Anyway, she designed them and I offered to use my embroidery machine to add the lettering and barbell design. It was good practice for me at using the embroidery machine. I actually have not used it in quite awhile. Laura took all twelve of the scarves to the gym but she let Lilly keep the sample. On Saturday, Laura and I left the house at 8:15 am to get to the Senior Center in Greenville in time for the start of the March for Meals 5K. The money collected goes to the Meals on Wheels program. That was the good part. The bad part was that it was pouring rain. However, you can see below that we were good sports. We were smiling at the beginning of the race and we were wet but still smiling at the end of the race. At least we had knocked out our Apple Watch exercise requirements for the day.
All that remained was one last building project before Laura could go back to her apartment in St. Louis. She did a great job on it. Stay tuned to a future blog to find out how it is going to be used.
