Heath's Birthday

We celebrated Heath's birthday over Memorial Day weekend.  While Heath was outside giving his guests a tour of the place, Suzanne and I prepared for his birthday.

In an unusual turn of events, the theme of the party was not a surprise.  In fact, Heath picked it.  He called it 'Log'.  Suzanne made him a log cake.  She rolled a cake with a light chocolate filling and then spread dark chocolate ganache all over it.  It was clever and delicious.

I went online to research this theme.  It seems that LumberJack is a popular theme right now so I was able to buy red and black plaid napkins and a birthday banner.  I used burlap on the table and to make goodie bags that contained mosquito repellant wristbands and maple leaf hard candy.  Also at every place I had pictures of Heath working with logs.  I created pictures stands by painting wine corks brown so they look like logs.

Of course no birthday party is complete without gifts and games.  One of Heath's gifts was a tool organizer.  He seemed very happy to receive it.

We also played an axe throwing game except it was not with a real axe and you were blindfolded.  You cannot tell from the picture but Laura won.  Just what you would expect would happen if you mix a cross fit instructor and throwing an axe.

I think we have set the bar pretty high for Heath's first birthday party at the pond.  This is probably why they left Dallas to move to Illinois.  They wanted to be included in the infamous 'Peterson' parties.
