Vegetables Planted
Once the 25 bags of potting mix were delivered, I was ready to start vegetable planting. Mike was ready too. He needed the trailer unloaded.
So Mike cleared out my old raised beds (two on the ground and 6 taller ones) and added the bags of potting mix. I added the plants.
This year I am only growing two tomato plants but I added eight marigold plants to the bed. They are suppose to be garden buddies and the marigolds help repel bugs from the tomatoes. However, I read more about this after I bought the marigolds and apparently this only works with specific types of marigolds and they are suppose to be planted between the plants. Anyway, they look good.
I am also back to growing two zucchini plants. I have cut down to only one the last two years but they have not been healthy so my crop yields were low. However, this year we are trying something new with the zucchini plants. I have bought a squash trellis. I am going to try to have the vines grow over the trellis thereby making it easier to pick the squash in a timely manner. Even with Mike's help last year, we kept overlooking normal size squash until they were giant sized. It takes a long time to use up a giant zucchini. So this year my goal is to catch them when they are no more than 8 inches long and one and one half inches across.
Of course, two days after we planted my vegetables, we got a frost weather warning. Mike and I covered all my plants to protect them.
Anyway, the plants seem to be doing well. Now we will just have to wait and see if my hopes for a good vegetable harvest actually happen this season.
