Aquatic Weed Control
When we lived in Houston, Mike spent a lot of time maintaining our lawn. This involved mowing at the right height, using a mulching mower, adding a combined weed control and fertilizing product on to the grass many times a year and controlling bugs. Since moving to the pond all that has changed. Mike no long spends as much time caring for our lawn. He is too busy working on aquatic weed control in the pond.
As a fisherman, Mike has a love-hate relationship with the pond moss and weeds. The moss on the top of the pond gets into his boat motors. The weeds get caught up on his fishing poles. On the other hand, his cousin Scott, the professional fisherperson, says that the bass love to hide in the weeds and it is a great place to catch fish.
I've lost track of the number of times this month Mike has added products to the pond to kill the moss that floats on the top of the water. It has certainly improved the look of the pond and made fishing from the bank better. In fact, we have become a popular fishing spot for his niece and their children during this pandemic. They even held a fishing birthday party here.
Nevertheless, Mike is not satisfied. Now he has decided to add Aquacide to take out the weeds. This is a new product for our pond and Mike has high hopes for it.
Bags of Aquacide pellets have been sitting in our garage for a month or so. The other day Mike decided that all factors were right to finally add it to the pond. He even had his brother Bill and our dog Frankie involved in the business of applying the pellets to the underwater weeds.
We are now in wait and see mode concerning the effectiveness of these pellets. If they work as well as expected, we have more in the garage. And now Mike is talking about purchasing grass carp to eat any of the weeds that escape the chemical process. It appears that pond maintenance is a whole lot more involved that lawn maintenance ever was.
