Wood Working

I was driving through Greenville the other day when I noticed a unique planter.  I went home and described it to Mike.  He was unclear about what I was describing so I went online and Googled ladder planters.  So once Mike had the visual, he decided to make me one for my birthday.

Ideally outdoor planters should be made of cedar.  Cedar has natural oils that help it repel moisture and insects.  And it does not need to be stained.  Of course, we could not find any local store that carried it so Mike and I headed off to Lowes in Edwardsville.

Mike and I enjoy shopping at Lowe's but for different reasons.  He looks at wood, tools, sprinkler supplies and appliances.  I look at plants, gardening supplies, any and all outdoor decorations and the kitchen displays.  So while Mike found the lumber, I bought the plants to put into my soon to be planter.

So over the next few days Mike worked on making the planter while I worked at keeping my plants alive until they could be added to this planter.  This also gave us time to discuss and decide where to place the new planter.  We eventually decided it would be ideal to place it on the back patio.

I immediately planted my new herbs and some flowers.  The finished product adds a lot of class and interest to my back patio area.  Maybe when the plants are bigger, it will even add a bit of color.
