New Chicks

We got lucky.  On Wednesday, Mike found Americuana chicks for sale at Buchheit.  On Thursday, he finished the mini chicken coop.

We moved it into position and Mike headed off the Buchheits.  Not only did he need to get the baby chicks, but we had not had any chicks in so long, we needed all new supplies.  He had to buy chick food, a feeder, a waterer and chick vitamins.

While at Buchheits, Mike bought more building materials so we could enclose two more sides around the new baby chick coop so when they were older they would have their own mini run.  They would be able to go outside and see their bigger sisters in the bigger run and get used to the idea they had company.  But they would also be protected from their bigger sisters until the new chicks were big enough to hold their own.  Of course, he would also have to put a roof over this enclosure to help keep predators out and adventurous chicks inside.

I was a bit concerned that Mike might forget something important with his long shopping list, like the chicks ,but he came home with eight Americuanas.  Now that we have them all, I am wondering what was I thinking.  They are all identical.  We will never be able to tell them apart!  We should have mixed at least a few of another breed of chicks.  Well, at least we are going to have lots of blue-green eggs.
