Halloween Costumes
I started early in the month of October looking for Halloween costumes for our dogs.
I made a conscious decision not to get a costume for Frankie this year. He, Mike and I dressed up as three parts of a s'more last year for Trunk or Treat. He wore a pillow and was the marshmallow. He was mortified. He kept turning his back on the trick-or-treaters like he was hoping no one would see him. I decided he earned a one year reprieve for being such a good sport.
The first costume I bought was from WalMart. On their rack of dog Halloween costumes, there was one obviously meant for Lilly. It was a princess costume. Mike and the girls actually call her that. They say I treat Lilly like a princess since she is the only one of the four house dogs that is allowed in the living room and on the coach. I even have a dog bed for her on the couch. I cannot refute these charges so I decided to play along and get her the costume.
Della was harder. She is an energetic puppy. It was going to be hard to find a costume that would stay on her. I finally got a costume idea for her after the jumping over the four foot retaining wall episode. Obviously, she thinks she can fly. And apparently, she, at least, considers herself invincible. Super Dog she is!
Maybe I should call her Super Puppy Dog. Her coordination is not yet the best. Here she is stepping on her own ear.
The only other person who dressed up in our family was Laura. She had incentive. They dressed up all week at her school. She actually came to me for suggestions for dress like a Senior Citizen Day. She went through my closet and chose a sweater set and an old brooch. After that visit I was really feeling my age and then some. At least she had fun.
I'm not sure how much fun the dogs had wearing their costumes but the rest of us enjoyed it very much. Mike already has suggestions for next year. He thinks Frankie and Della should have coordinating costumes. On it!
