Retirement Calendar

Without a five day a week work schedule defining our time, all the days seem to be like our Saturdays used to be- unstructured.  As a result, Mike never knows which day of the week it is.  So I have gotten into the habit of checking my calendar every night and telling him what to expect for the following day.

When I looked at today's schedule I was in for a shock.  We had three events scheduled.  First, I got my hair colored and cut in Greenville.  This has become a highlight for me no pun intended.  Everyone in the beauty shop is very talkative and I learn all sorts of things each time I go.  Last time I learned that my hairdressers aunt was retiring from the Greenville school system as a speech pathologist.  I just happen to know of a speech pathologist looking for a job (Laura).  Small world.  Today I learned about a quilting store in nearby Highland that I didn't even know existed.

Then Mike was to be the designated driver for his parents trip to Effingham.  Frank sees an eye specialist there and he really doesn't need to be driving himself home from these type of appointments.  This turned out to be an exciting event because Mike drove Frank's car home in the early evening without the lights on.  He thought Frank always kept the automatic light feature turned on in his car but apparently not. Mike didn't catch on until they were almost home.

In the meantime, I went to my first committee meeting at my new church.  It actually felt good to be with a group of women and planning something besides a new house.

I just checked tomorrow's calendar.  Nothing scheduled.  Looks like we are back to normal.
