Snow Day

If Mike and I still had school children at home, this would have been a day I dreaded - a snow day which is a day when school was unexpectedly closed due to bad weather.  Mike and I woke up this morning to about eight inches of snow.  No one showed up to work on the house and we had the place to ourselves.

Of course, snow or no snow I still had to take care of the chickens and dogs.  I carried Pebbles out so she could relieve herself and realized I had a problem.  There was no place to set her down that she wouldn't sink into the snow and probably not be able to get out.  She is 16 years old.  Looks like Laura didn't have that problem with Blackie.

Blackie doing his best to minimize his time outside.
Before I started my chicken chores, I had to stop and change my boots.  I needed taller boots to get to the chicken coop and water spigot.  I finally just got out the snow shovel.

Mike shoveling snow off the mesh roof of the chicken pens.
We were afraid if we didn't get the snow off the mesh would rip.
Once we finished our chores then we played.

Mike playing in the RZR.
He found out today that if the RZR pushes snow out of its path,
it comes in the back window and all over the driver.

Mike used the RZR to clear a path so we could walk the dogs but
Gracie wouldn't stay on the path.

Students at SIUC had a snow day.
Here Emily and Dana use a laundry basket to sled in the snow.
Emily reports that the laundry basket is now broken.
