Wildlife Biologist On Call
Met a wildlife biologist this weekend. She is the sister of Laura's college roommate. Her name is Rachelle. She is going to be working in Arkansas but in this world of cell phones she really isn't far away. I am thinking she will be a good resource for all my questions about wildlife at the pond.
So to make conversation I mentioned that last year Mike and I saw a snapping turtle cross our driveway. I don't want to have too many snapping turtles around here so I was curious if she had any information about snapping turtles. She said reptiles aren't her specialty but she had resources if she ever had to learn more about them.
So then I mentioned that I was concerned about predators that might be in the area that might be after my chickens. That's when she told me her specialty was wild birds. So then I told her about seeing all these geese on our property just the other day. She then turned the tables and asked me a question.
Rachelle wanted to know if they were Canadian geese or snow geese. Fortunately I had written a blog on the subject so I could answer that question intelligently. I wish I had met Rachelle before I wrote that blog post. She could have been my source and I wouldn't have had to do all that research. Still I will keep her in mind for any future questions about birds at the pond.

| It was dusk and I was putting the chickens to bed when I saw activity on the bank of the pond. It had been raining all week and I think these geese decided this was the best place to stay overnight. |

| The next morning the geese were gone and the kayaks were too. I wonder if the geese pushed it out of their way? |
